Renaming
Do the coastlines still look the same,
Do the tides still ebb and flow?
Yet lines are redrawn on the map,
Then brushed in gold, a glowing glow.
The Gulf of America ripples wide,
Where warm southern breezes blow;
A grand expanse of turquoise waves,
Made pompous, dull, and gilded in show.
Give me a tower, make Mexico my gulf,
A Canada vast my inland sea;
Rename it in gilded lettering, a bluff
For Greenland and the world to see.
The oceans churn, the currents turn,
Unbothered, unchanged by name—
While ink upon the parchment chart
Still claims them for the game.
The earth has realigned; it’s mine to take
So, scribble my name cold and bold.
When all things become my cake,
For I need to fill that hole in my soul.
