Strings of My Heart

I learned from a man without education

and another with PHDs' obligations.

The first was brilliant but turned an idiot.

The other is now a jerk but still a patriot.

To find my gold and silver, I'd follow the cold shiver

that runs down my spine to draw battle lines in the sand.

I must spin yarns with diamonds and silk!

I must split a yawn between lemons and sour milk!

I must trace the footsteps of my fears

and brace for the shore of fools near and dear.

Or I will never know my gifts or curse

that pull the strings of my heart and purse.
