The Oppressor

Updated: Oct 23, 2021

He dares to oppress another.

Must he not care for the other?

Must he not notice their bother?

Must he not bear his burden's smother?

When he stares into the victim's lair,

And swears to spare no care for a tear

Then to see that no freedom lays bare.

He glares and snares, rights he makes rare.

The flair of love does not arise in him a stir.

So, he will err his very soul to remain unfair.

He has his scared little wicked self to spare.

Victor-victim alike, at last, receive their due fare.

The oppressor aptly conveys the true emotions of being oppressed using good word choice to convey depth of feelings and vivid imagery. As I read and reread the poem, it was not hard for me to take the imaginary trip to the dark world of the oppressed through the words like ....”.does he not care, victim’s lair, no care for a tear...... “

All I want to say is that it is a well written poem for someone who just started writing!
